Nutrition

The need

We strive to empower our communities with the tools and knowledge they need to improve their health and their future. One of the fundamental building blocks to health is nutrition. Employing evidence-based, cost effective preventative practices, we will work with partner communities to address undernutrition, anemia, micronutrient deficiencies, and nutrition-related non-communicable disease in order to achieve measurably improved health outcomes.

Current Initiatives

We have designed two pilot programs to combat the effects of under and overnutrition at key points in the lifecycle with the community partner, Hombro a Hombro clinic.

The first pilot program, aimed at the prevention and alleviation of malnutrition during the first 1000 days of life, will focus on improving infant care and feeding practices. Caregivers will participate in monthly educational sessions, receive house visits from community health workers, track the growth and development of their children and receive additional health services as needed.

The second pilot is a diet and behavior change intervention for participants with nutrition-related non-communicable diseases. Participants will be involved in cooking classes while learning how to manage their health and improve their disease status.
