Timmy Chapter Spotlight: International School of Indiana

Timmy Chapter Spotlight: International School of Indiana
March 27, 2017 Callie Daniels-Howell

Each week we spotlight one of our fine college or high school chapters doing amazing work both locally and globally. Our chapters work to accomplish the three pillars of a Timmy Chapter: Advocacy, Service, and Fundraising. This week we are taking a look at the International School of Indiana!

Give us an update–what are some recent events you have done, or goals you have achieved?

On Friday March 10th, we had our twelfth annual Geeks vs Geezers ISI Timmy Basketball Game, where alumni and teachers competed against our JV and varsity basketball team. The game was filled with fun activities such as a dance performance during halftime, a free-throw competition and several baskets filled with items from around the world were raffled off. Overall over $1000 were raised and all the profits will be going towards sending students to the Dominican Republic this summer. The Timmy Game followed a spirit week where the whole school dresses up each day. On Monday the entire student body snuggled up in their pajamas, followed by a Twin Tuesday, Well Dressed Wednesday, Meme Thursday and to finish it off on Friday every grade represented their Class Color!

What events or goals are you gearing up for in the near future?  What are your plans to make these happen successfully?

For the rest of the year our chapter will be holding several more fundraising activities. This month we’re in the middle of our annual Ping Pong tournament where students and staff battle for the ultimate title of school champion. In May we’ll be having a pizza sale where families and neighbors can buy frozen pizzas, prepared by ISI Timmy members. We’re also planning to work with Graeter’s and Puccini’s, who are willing to donate a certain percentage of their profits for everyone who comes in with a flyer to our organization. We would like to extend this activity to other high school chapters, so that as many people as possible can participate. Finally, we plan on finishing off the year by working at the racetrack on May 20th and cleaning the facilities.

Is your chapter heading out on a trip soon? How is that part of your chapter preparing, and how is the rest of your chapter supporting the trip?

This year we’ll be sending out 6 members and our supervisor, Ms. Sinitsky, on the service trip to Las Canas, Dominican Republic. Two of the students as well as Mrs. Sinitsky have previously been on the trip and have been sharing their knowledge about this organization and the type of service that we will be expected to do. In preparation, we have been learning about Dominican culture and the difference between various forms of service. This is to ensure we cause no harm and only work to benefit the communities we will be visiting. The other 90 members of the chapter have been supporting us by participating in the events, helping raise money to offset the cost of the trip and fundraising for Timmy Global Health’s programming.

What kind of assistance or support do you need?

We would really appreciate students from other schools participating in our Puccini’s and Graeter’s fundraising activity. Although the dates haven’t been finalize yet, we will share the information as soon as we can. Everyone who wants to participate simply needs to bring a flyer to the restaurant on the specific date and enjoy a delicious meal! It would be great if every Indianapolis area chapter president could reach out to us so we can send them the information as soon as it becomes available!

What are you most excited for during your year with Timmy?

Our most exciting events every year are the Timmy basketball and volleyball student vs. alumni & staff games. Our members traveling to the Dominican Republic cannot wait experience and contribute to global health and wellness in the communities Timmy works.
