Medical Programs Coordinator - Guangaje, Ecuador
Raphaela spent most of her life in New Jersey before heading south to New Orleans for college. She earned Bachelors degrees in Political Economy and Economics from Tulane University, as well as a Masters in Disaster Resilience Leadership Studies from Tulane’s School of Social Work. Raphaela has worked with refugees in Rwanda and in local emergency management with the American Red Cross of Greater New York, New York City Emergency Management, and New Orleans Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. She believes that improving access to local healthcare is critical and hopes to transition into providing healthcare services in emergency or disaster settings later in her career.
On a whim, she volunteered as an interpreter for a Timmy brigade to Guangaje while studying abroad in Quito. She joined another brigade in Tena before returning to the United States and is thrilled to be working for Timmy as a full-time staff member. She looks forward to engineering brigades in Guangaje that will impact students and volunteers in the same meaningful way.
Raphaela is excited to return to Ecuador and to contribute to Timmy’s mission. She loves any aquatic activities, especially swimming, scuba diving, and being on the beach, and spends much of her land-based time reading, baking, and collecting arcane trivia. She is only somewhat apprehensive about tackling high-altitude baking.
