Programs Manager - Guatemala & Dominican Republic
Shanti is thrilled to be the new Programs Manager for Guatemala and the Dominican Republic! She first heard of Timmy while interning at Asociación Pop Wuj, Timmy’s in-country partner in Xela. During that time, she was involved in many Timmy funded projects – including translating for medical service trips, working in the pharmacy, and collaborating with volunteers to plan and present educational talks for the Nutrition Program. Her time as an intern left herknowing this was just the beginning of her work alongside high-impact organizations in Guatemala.
Before coming to Timmy, Shanti graduated with a BA in International Development Studies from the University of Winnipeg. In college, she volunteered as a mentor for newcomer youth at the NEEDS Center and as a Communications Assistant with the Social Purchasing Portal—a local business directory that is building stronger communities through ethical purchasing advocacy. Although born and raised in Canada, Shanti’s passion for working in Latin America and call to give back are rooted in her Guatemalan heritage. She first returned to Guatemala in 2015 to work for Social Entrepreneur Corps, supporting the work of the local social business, SolCom. SolCom uses the Micro-Consignment Model to empower and train locals to become entrepreneurs and provide access to products that will make a social impact their communities. Shanti feels very privileged to have the opportunity to continue serving others via Timmy’s mission!
