Medical Programs Coordinator - Guangaje, Ecuador
After graduating from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez with a degree in psychology, Josué began his professional career in special education, teaching children with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities.
Having been bitten by the travel bug early in life, growing up between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, Josué joined the Peace Corps in Nicaragua. He fell in love with improving people’s livelihoods, living internationally, and learning from different cultures and peoples. These passions led him to coordinate volunteer work and develop social projects focused on health, education, and conservation with indigenous communities in Cusco, Peru, as a Field Manager with Maximo Nivel and later as Director of International Programs, directly influencing the projects’ local impact. As Director of Training in Costa Rica for the same organization, Josué went on to be the senior trainer for employees in all positions in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Peru.
Josué loves to be challenged and enjoys learning about new cultures. An avid backpacker, couchsurfer, and an overall nomad, he has lived in 5 different countries and traveled to around 20 more—and never plans to stop. Josué intends to achieve an MPH and is therefore thrilled to be joining the Timmy staff in Ecuador as a Medical Programs Coordinator. He’s excited to contribute his knowledge and experience to serve the people of Ecuador while gaining cultural, international, and professional experience.
