TECHO Nutrition Program Manager - Xela, Guatemala
After serving as the Medical Program Coordinator in Xela, Guatemala from May 2013 to December 2015, Ashley is very excited to be rejoining the Timmy team as the Nutrition Program Manager in Guatemala.
A Michigan native, Ashley graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2008 with a degree in Psychology and Sociology. Upon graduation, she traveled around the US, and spent six months hiking the Appalachian Trail. Ashley worked a number of years in group homes and direct care for individuals with disabilities, and spent two years working in a public mental health clinic in Tucson, AZ before traveling to Xela, Guatemala in 2011, with plans to stay a few months. Now a resident of Xela for more than five years, Ashley has had the opportunity to work with numerous different organizations in the area, including Timmy Global Health long-time partner, Asociación Pop Wuj, where she continues to volunteer.
In late 2015, she founded the Guatemalan non-profit organization Asociación Abriendo Caminos to increase services and opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. She currently serves as Executive Director for Abriendo Caminos. Ashley is a lover of mountains, music and books, and her free time is typically consumed with any combination of the three.
