Medical Program Coordinator- MonteCristi, Dominican Republic
Abby is from a small town in Ohio (technically a village, its only one square mile!) and graduated from the University of Mount Union with a degree in Sociology and Spanish.
Abby never imagined she would study Spanish, but after participating in various service learning trips throughout Latin America, she began to understand the powerful role language plays in the way you connect with the world. Abby was driven by this and to this day she continues to use language as a tool in creating a space to empathize with others and for constant learning!
Abby comes to Timmy after finishing 3 years with the Peace Corps in the Western Highlands in Guatemala. She first served as a Public Health volunteer in the ‘Healthy Schools’ government initiative and later transitioned into working as a consultant for a USAID, ‘Leer y Aprender, Aprendizaje para la Vida’ program related to youth and development. As a volunteer, she promoted health education and behavior change through community strengthening strategies and organized sexual health and education activities, leadership trainings and community development projects, such as community gardens.
Abby is excited to be back in the DR with TGH and is looking forward to becoming immersed in the Caribbean culture and better understand the unique border culture in MonteCristi. She is a strong advocate for women’s health and community health promotion – and is honored to empower underserved populations through Timmy’s mission. Outside of work, Abby loves to scroll through celebrities Instagram accounts, read, spend time with her 4 siblings and considers herself a craft beer and coffee snob.
