Amazon Basin – Ecuador

OUR COMMUNITIES: TENA (MISAHUALLI & CHONTAPUNTA), ECUADOR

Tena, located five hours east of Quito in the Napo Province, has a population of ~20,000 people living in small, rural communities. The area is in the heart of the Amazon basin, an incredibly vast system of rivers and tributaries that eventually find their way to the Amazon River. The Napo province differentiates itself from other poor regions in Ecuador because of its disproportionately low access to healthcare, non-existent transportation infrastructure to and from many communities, and poor educational resources

OUR PARTNERs: SUMAK KAWSAY WASI

Sumak Kawsay Wasi is the provincial arm of the local governemtn in Napo. They provide support during medical service trips with an odontologist, psychologist, health promoters, and Kichwa translators. Timmy referrers patients to Sumak’s physical rehabillitation providers and Sumak supports Timmy with transportation services to and from hard to reach communities.
