A Day in the Life of a Timmy MPC: Abby

Abby is the current Medical Programs Coordinator in MonteCristi, Dominican Republic. She is originally from a small town in North-Eastern Ohio, but has spent the last 5 years living and working abroad in Latin America and now, the Caribbean. After graduating from the University of Mont Union, Abby spent 3 years as a health and education volunteer with the United States Peace Corps in Guatemala. During that time, she developed a passion for creating dynamic health lessons with health promoters and co-
facilitating capacity building workshops for local leaders, striving to create behavior change.

What Abby loves most about her work in the DR is coordinating with our in-country partner’s health promoters. Together with Abby, these bright and inspiring women create care plans for referral patients, connect community members to local resources and spent the summer carrying out community needs assessment tools such as, community interviews and community mapping.

Since living in the Dominica Republic, Abby has learned that she does not like to cook, but can make a delicious a charcutier board (or grab a coconut water and empanada to go!), is forever attempting to understand how to play dominos, loves Cuban son and drinks way too much black coffee. Abby has found it extremely eye-opening to live in a border town and tries to spend her free time reading about Haitian culture and history of the Dominican Republic. Abby thinks after her time in the DR, she will now always have to live close to the ocean.
