About Rivers State

Rivers State, also known simply as Rivers, is one of the 36 states of Nigeria. With a population of 5.2 million, it is the sixth-most populous state in the country and boasts a vast reserve of natural resources including crude oil and natural gas. Despite its wealth in resources, this region is marked with extreme disparities in access to health and education. The poorest communities are also still trying to recover from the effects of massive oil spills in 2008-2009, which contaminated and destroyed local fisheries and water sources.

Barriers to Healthcare:

Lack of educational resources

Low access to healthcare

Affordability of medication

THE BEBOR MODEL NURSERY AND SCHOOL

We have partnered with The Bebor Model Nursery and Primary School (BMNPS) since March 2002. BMNPS was founded in the rural village of Bodo City in 1995 as a response to the failure of the Nigerian government to maintain viable primary schools in the region. We work directly with BMNPS to help expand their community-based schools, construct latrines, procure a generator, establish a student scholarship program, and provide a deworming and immunization program.
